I'm a big Sam Neil fan and am constantly amazed at the quality of the projects that bear his name. The Dish, Children of the Revolution, In the Mouth of Madness and Yes are some of my favorite Sam Neil films. But he's also been in some clunkers and many name Event Horizon among the worst of the lot.
They should rethink their assessment. Still scary after all these years Event Horizon is a far from perfect film but a far from boring one. And seeping round the edges of it's frame is a black back lit something that threatens to reveal itself everytime I watch EH and that sends me scurrying towards Lovecraft to see it better.

Totally agree with this review.
the beauty of "Event Horizon" is that the idea of the movie elevates the movie way beyond what it should be. The premise is so good you can forgive what your watching. don't worry they'll probably remake it in 5 years.
no monster, no ghosts, no psycho killer.
the ship visited hell.
(shudder)
I don't knwo what those reviewers were thinking back then, but I had nightmares for a long time with this film. one of the scariest movies to date.
It freaked me and I thought it was a great film. This slapped me in the face and said "Sean Pertwee" should be on screen more!
This film had some of the worst writing, acting and direction of any horror film. Ever. Hell, Jason X is on the same level as this.
Some of you folks are either willing to watch anything or are simply too forgiving of genre crap. Film is laughable.
I didn't see this film until I moved in with my last roommate. He has it on laserdisc. I watched it by myself late at night, and I hesitated when it came time to flip the disc over. Not because I thought the movie sucked, but because I was afraid to finish it alone in a darkened room. It was like reading Lovecraft by candlelight during a thunderstorm. I have to own this.
This is a terrific film that could be so much more with almost 30 minutes of footage cut out for pace. The lost footage mostly delt with character development which was soarly lacking in this othervise fantastic movie.
I have a soft spot for Event Horizon, but only because it's a rip off of Disney's The Black Hole :)
Damn I guess we can't put HTML code in these comments... my first sentence should have read "to actually review the DVD"
Indeed, Resident Evil was blah cinema...oddly enough, I actually liked Ultraviolet, well parts of it anyway...
Apparently when Plague saw JASON X, he/she wasn't facing the screen.
This is an awesome movie that doesnt deserve sll of its critiscms found it to be quite scary has an eerie feeling throughout the movie hopefully they will release an extended version with all the missing footage!
little late from when this thread came out but... just bought the S.E. and this movie rocked when i saw it in the theatre and still rocks, great scares, great gore.
