I thought it was filmed very well, but boring as all hell.

With all of 2 action films, and one of those being REALLY weak, I really suggest just watching the first movie over again.

This was still Tom running around like Rambo. And Tom doesn't make a good Rambo.

"...this is some of the most visceral best-filmed action I’ve ever encountered in a mainstream big budget American action film."

I couldn't agree more -- the setpiece on the bridge was incredible. J.J. Abrams instills real pain and danger in that scene. The film also has a real momentum and dramatic drive.

Where the movie fails is in its relationship scenes, where actor-as-auteur Tom Cruise imposes his personal touches. It's impossible to watch Tom and that Katie Holmes' stand-in and not conjure up real-life paparazzi imagery. Here, also, Abrams allows some unnecessary cheesiness to get in the way of any real emotion. The last scene of the movie, where Tom and his lady walk towards the camera hand-in-hand -- barf!

Still, I agree. This is a kick-a action movie and a great way to start the summer movie season.

I recommend this movie just for the action alone. The visual effects and stunts were put to use in the best way that I've seen and that's due to J.J.'s directing who btw I love. Lost is the best show on TV. but anyways, with that said, this movie is still kinda bland. Maybe they'd thought we wouldn't care about the underdeveloped characters, but I cared. I'm sure the general public wouldn't care at all, but it made the film a little boring. Last scene was cheesiest ending ever. But yea, action is awesome. Just watch it. Maybe cause I was super tired today.

i enjoyed it a lot in cinema, i tried to compare it with Bourne after it ..I wasn't sure who is better.

But few days after, i think Bourne is better..I like how Matt damon got attacked and ran away with crippled leg, and doesn't have a flashing smile!

I'll say this in favor of the movie: Tom Cruise sure can run!

Canfield, you made your case well, but I had a completely different reaction. For me it was an efficient time-waster, but left me with no desire to watch it again. Those action scenes -- I hate the trend to frame and edit them so you never have a sense of the geography of the location. It's just running, jumping, and shooting. Hoffman was good, but Fishburne, Billy Crudup, and Jonathan Rhys Meyers were disappointingly bland. Nice to see Maggie Q and Simon Pegg, though.

This film would be some of the worst rubbish I've ever seen if it wasn't for Simon Pegg's gleefully incongruous appearances.
