Park Chul-soo's latest film, Green Chair, the story about an 'unconventional' romance between a student [Shim Ji-ho] and a divorcee in her 30s [Seo Jeong], was shelved for a year and a half by its investor in 2003. Deemed too bizarre to garner any financial success the film was saved from relative obscurity thanks in part to interest from festivals like Sundance and Berlin and it has been a recent addition to the Udine Festival in Italy and the New York Asian Film Festival [June 30].

Green Chair opened this weekend in Korea and only just managed to crack the top ten in box office statistics, perhaps indicating the korean public isn't excited about content of the film, or they just don't know. The highly publicized films Rules of Dating and A Bold Family also opened this weekend and took the number 1 and 2 spots respectively.

Green Chair stars newcomer Shim Ji-ho, Oh Yoon-hong and Seo Jeong [Spider Forest and The Isle]
