Good news for fans of Korean action cinema!
Shout! Factory has secured the North American rights to distribute two Korean action flicks from 2011. The 3D creature feature Sector 7 and the automotive actioner Quick. The latter cracked the top ten Korean box office receipts last year.
This agreement with CJ E&M, one of Korea's leading production companies, grants Shout! Factory rights for all packaged media (DVD/Blu-ray) home entertainment releases and digital distribution in the U.S and Canada.
This is great news for fans who otherwise may have had to go through dubious (read incriminating) or expensive (read R2 DVD/BRay) means to see these films. Especially for fans who do not live in key market cities that had limited theatrical runs of these films last year. Let us hope it leads to more Korean films finding their way on to our side of the Pacific."We're excited about this opportunity with CJ E&M and look forward to bringing these films to North American movie fans and reaching new audiences through upcoming physical and digital releases. These beautifully made, highly entertaining features are perfect additions to our ever-growing world cinema library." state Shout! Factory's founding partners."CJ E&M is excited for Shout! Factory to feature our movies to their discerning fans. The titles we are launching are high-octane adventures featuring the best of Korea's popular movies right now. We look forward to these films finding and entertaining a whole new audience" enthuses Joon Choi of CJ E&M America, the US subsidiary.
