So, what say you? Is Ridley Scott a good fit for the worlds of writer Cormac McCarthy? We may soon find out.
Two weeks ago word broke that McCarthy had written his first script, a gritty little number titled The Counselor about a lawyer who decides to dabble in the world of drug trafficking to make a bit of extra money only to discover it is a world that does not lend itself to dabbling. It sounds like vintage stuff from the writer of No Country For Old Men with the promise being that none of McCarthy's voice would be lost in translation from a book since this was the pure stuff going straight into script form.
And now that news has been followed with word that Ridley Scott is currently in talks to direct. Where Scott would fit this in to a schedule that is already quite full - including the planned new film set in the world of Blade Runner - but the question for me is a more fundamental one. Is Scott - truly a great director when paired with the right material - simply too slick for McCarthy?

Yeah...would rather have seen William Friedkin, Paul Schrader, Nicolas Winding Refn etc somebody not as slick as Ridley Scott.....thinks this should be darker.
