Fassbender Will Take Up The Sword As CUCHULAINN

Michael Fassbender has been very busy indeed over the past few years and the actor shows no sign of slowing down.

Having won raves for his performance in Shame, Fassbender will next been seen in Ridley Scott's Prometheus before re-teaming with his Hunger and Shame director Steve McQueen for Twelve Years A Slave and suiting up to reprise his role as Magneto in the upcoming X-Men: First Class sequel.

And while Fassbender remains one of the most sought after actors of his generation he's clearly not satisfied with just being a gun for hire and is now also developing a project of his own, a big screen adaptation of the collection of Irish folk tales and legends known as The Ulster Cycle in which he would play the legendary - and not entirely human - warrior known as CĂșchulainn.

There is no director attached yet but Fassbender will produce himself via his Finn McCool Films banner with Public Enemies writer Ronan Bennett writing the script.

Given that he's developing it on his own (with a production company named after an Ulster Cycle character) hopefully it won't be a "300 in Ireland" type film that you'd expect Hollywood to come up with. Like a lot of mythology The Ulster Cycle is pretty batshit insane and while a strict adaptation wouldn't work I'd love it if they tried to preserve the tone of the original material.

This sounds like fantasy/folk tale version of the Hulk.
Hopefully Fassbender has seen episodes of Game of Thrones and heads in that direction.
