Cue the Alan Moore meltdown in 5 ... 4 ... 3 ... 2 ... 1 ...

though we very rarely cover purely comic book news here at Twitch this is simply too large to ignore.

DC Comics have announced that they will launch a new, seven issue prequel series to Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' classic Watchmen which each issue focused on a pre-Watchmen adventure by one of the key characters. Rorschach, Comedian, Dr. Manhattan, Nite Owl, Ozymandias, Silk Spectre and The Minutemen will each receive their own issue with writing duties to be handled by Darwyn Cooke, J. Michael Straczynski, Brian Azzarello, Adam Hughes, Andy Kubert and Joe Kubert.

Note who is not on that list.

While original Watchmen artist Dave Gibbons has apparently given his blessing to the project notoriously cranky Alan Moore has not and it doesn't take a genius to guess what Moore's likely response will be.

koay.allan: Moore turned down the money he was entitled to for the Watchmen movie. So you're wrong, unfortunately.
