While the cinema world mourns the passing of director Theo Angelopoulos - killed when struck by a motorcycle yesterday - the news is balanced some by the fact that Greek cinema is in better, albeit weirder, shape than it has been in quite some time. Director Yorgos Lanthimos (Dogtooth, Alps) is at the center of the current wave and his successes are clearly opening doors for others.
Lanthimos collaborator Efthimis Filippou - writer of both Dogtooth and Alps - makes his presence felt at Sundance this year as the co-writer of Babis Makridis' supremely odd comedy-drama L.

Frequently late delivering honey, the man is fired, and his driving skills are questioned. Thrust into existential uncertainty, he abandons "car life" and joins a rogue motorbike gang.
