A press conference was held yesterday in Beijing to announced the production of Special Identity (特殊身份). The modern actioner will be helmed by Clarence Fok, the director of the cult hit Naked Killer and The Iceman Cometh (1989). Not only will action star Donnie Yen will be starring in the film, he will also serve as producer and action director. Of course, no martial arts fight scenes will truly be exciting without a formidable opponent to bring out the best performance and that is where Vincent Zhao (aka Chiu Man-Cheuk), fellow action star of The Blade and True Legend, comes into the picture.
The release date is schedule for November.
On their first collaboration together, Yen says. "We never worked together before, although I really appreciate his talent...Vincent and I will do some great action scenes."The supporting cast include Zhang Hanyu (Assembly), Jing Tian, Kun Yang, and Qi Daji. Other crew member include Peter Pau as the cinematographer along with Bruce Law as the car stunt coordinator. No word yet on the plot details.
Zhao on the highlight of the action adds "Also expect lots of breathtaking car-racing scenes."
The release date is schedule for November.

Very interesting (if obvious) team up. And Zhang Hanyu is always welcome to class any film up.
This was meant to happen, seeing Vincent Zhao making a name for himself with True Legend. I hope Donnie makes the best of both himself and Vincent with this film.
Only thing that worries me a bit is Clarence Fok directing. Except for The Iceman Cometh and The H.K. Triad (a good HK remake of Goodfellas), I haven't seen his other films and he doesn't seem like a director with a good track record, considering that his films doesn't get mentioned much.
I'm not sure if Vincent fucked some studio heads mistress or something, but I've always felt like his career never got trajectory he deserved.
He was awesome in The Blade, I hope this project with Donnie Yen works out well.
I can think of two possible factors as to why Vincent's career never took at the time.
1. The popularity of martial arts films started to fade away after the first half of 1990s with many of these type of films being made wall-to-wall with more or less the same concept, and then were replaced by other genres such as sophisticated crime films by Johnnie To.
2. Vincent got into a scandal involving the late Anita Mui and the triads and he had to go into hiding for a while. As things cooled down, the industry wasn't what used to be with no contact with major companies or industry figures so TV and low-budget films were his only choice.
Martial Arts fans has to prepare for the battle of the year: Zhao can seriously kick ass!
"The modern actioner "
