[Twitch broke word Tuesday that Amanda Seyfried was being offered the role of Cosette in Tom Hooper's Les Miserables and Deadline is now confirming our report, noting that Seyfried is now in 'final negotiations'.]

Posted 8:11 PM, EST, January 3rd: While I freely confessed to being puzzled at who the audience is that will pay to see a new film version of Les Miserables, full credit to The King's Speech director Tom Hooper for assembling a cast with a fighting chance of making people want to.

Song and dance man Hugh Jackman already has the lead part of Jean Valjean with Helena Bonham Carter, Russell Crowe, Sacha Baron Cohen and Anne Hathaway in the other key parts.

And now Twitch has learned that Amanda Seyfried (In Time, Lovelace) has been offered the role of Cosette. Rumblings are that director Hooper intends to have the actors sing their own parts in the film without the use of voice doubles, in which case Seyfried's singing background - she is opera trained - will certainly come in handy. The irony of the casting is that, should she accept, she will be playing the daughter of Anne Hathaway's Fantine. Hathaway is only three years older than Seyfried in real life.

Sort of spoiler, I guess? It's technically first act stuff of a super famous story...

Fantine dies when Cosette is young; the story jumps forward a bunch of years to catch up with an older Cosette.

I wish Jean Dujardin was playing Jean Valjean.

COME ON?! Do you know anything about the ICONIC story?! Seyfried and Hathaway will not have a scene together as mother and daughter.... The ages of both actresses to not matter. Haha.. do your homework!

Yeah Todd! I thought you were a fan of musicals!
That's a big Le Fail for not knowing the ICONIC storyline. ICONIC! (it's not).

But come on. How many god damn time do they need to rehash this god damn story?

I caught it live in my teens early in its eons-long run in Toronto and have never had the urge to revisit it.

I first thought the headline said Tobe Hooper's LES MISERABLES, which would've been fun.
