AKIRA Refuses To Die!

by Hugo Ozman, January 6, 2012 1:52 AM

hys-akira.jpgHere is follow up news to Todd's earlier article on Warner Brothers shutting down the production of their live-action AKIRA movie. According to new reports, Warner Brothers is NOT pulling the plug on their AKIRA production.

'Insiders' have told Variety that a new writer will likely be brought on within the next couple of weeks to fix up the script, in particular focusing on the characters and the movie's look, and that Jonah Nolan (THE DARK KNIGHT and THE DARK KNIGHT RISES) and Michael Green (GREEN LANTERN) are being considered for the rewriting job.

So, it looks like (as Variety puts it) AKIRA is only 'down, not out'...

They should drop the budget down to $50 and get Gondry to do a "Sweded" version. I'd pay my $20 to see that

Given that "Akira" concerns a threat everyone thought had long since passed, this news is appropriate.

"Jonah Nolan (THE DARK KNIGHT and THE DARK KNIGHT RISES) and Michael Green (GREEN LANTERN) are being considered for the rewriting job". Dumb and dumber.

I hope this version has talking Tetsuo intestines, animated Muppet style! And talking motorbikes. And The Colonel from DANGER 5 as The Colonel. Glenn Close could play Kaneda. Awesome!

Slow death is all this is.

So they really are going forward with this bullshit...

This is going to be worse than 'Johnny Mnemonic'.
