Lionsgate Attaches Writer To AMERICAN PSYCHO Remake

Lionsgate intends to bring Brett Easton Ellis' American Psycho to the big screen and they have hired Noble Jones to help them do it.

A relative unknown, Jones has only one credit on the IMDB as a second unit director for The Social Network, but the lack of experience does not appear to be standing in the way with Variety reporting that Jones has been hired to write a new adaptation of the Ellis novel.

It's a busy time for American Psycho with a Broadway musical based on the book also in the works.

Pretty sure how I feel about this. Bad idea. Even if you don't love the first film, no one's gonna top Bale's performance. Unless they get Michael Fassbinder. Hm...

Second that, Josh. Watch Tim Olyphont get the part...

Also, why does anyone think this is necessary? Has AP gotten really popular lately or something? I'd much rather see Glamorama or a remake of Less Than Zero. AP was the only good Ellis adaptation thus far!

Redoing an eleven year old movie, huh? Thats...interesting.

Took less time than that to re-do The Hulk.

Hey, lay off Olyphant! I love the man, but I don't think he's right for the role.

Sigh...pity, what a pity. This is pure sacrilege. Watch it be a PG-13 version where instead of killing people, Bateman will just give people bad business advice while waxing philosophical about Justin Bieber being "too black sounding" for him (since they'll probably update it to present times instead of the 80s). I wouldn't put it past today's Hollywood hacks.

They're actually talking about doing it as a really raw microbudget style film. Seems like they're aiming for something interesting. I mostly just wonder whether Ellis is relevant any more. He was so much of his time ...

I really disliked the original American Psycho largely because it was way too polished. If they're going in a different direction with this I'll almost certainly enjoy it more. Ellis's relevance definitely is the main issue, although I get the sense that American Psycho's themes could be revitalized in the hands of a good writer/director team.
