That Richard Elfman - yes, the brother of Danny - was planning a return to The Forbidden Zone with a sequel to his 1982 cult hit is not news, with word of the SyFy Channel backed The Forbidden Zone 2: The Forbidden Galaxy circulating for a little while now. But with Elfman on hand to present a rare big screen showing of the original at the Morbido Festival in Mexico audiences here got a surprise treat with Elfman premiering a teaser shot specifically for the festival featuring one track from his latest foray into madness. The version screened - and now released online - features a Spanish dub for the local audience and CGI backgrounds where the finished product will have physical backgrounds but whatever language they're speaking it also makes it clear that the original spirit of lunacy is fully present.
Elfman has described the project like this:
Elfman has described the project like this:
Check the video below!Ma and Pa Kettle leave the depressed Dust Bowl with their kids, Stinky and Petunia, and drive their old jalopy down to Crenshaw in South-Central Los Angeles. Stinky is a hyper-active 12-year-old, played by a hyper-active 50-year-old; Petunia is a lumbering 13-year-old slut, played by an actress over 18 (hopefully); Ma is a corn-cob pipe-smoking inbred, and Pa is a craven, drunken carnival geek...with a bad disposition...even before his carnival job folded after the last dust storm. Together, they hope to find a better life in California. Unfortunately, the little shack they rent has a basement connected to the Sixth Dimension--a bizarre underworld, ruled by a megalomaniac midget King, his jealous Queen, and an array of fantastical creatures, the most outrageous being The Princess Polly, a man-hungry gal with a to-die-for sexy, voluptuous body and an over-sized, grotesque, cartoon-like head. Her wild get ups and show-stopping musical numbers will give Gaga a run for the money!

Interesting. The 1982 movie sure knocked me for a loop seeing it back in 1985. I don't know how I feel about the crazy sets being replaced with psychedelic CGI though.
Looks like something from the "Eye of the Beholder" episode of the Twilight Zone crossed with the less glamorous mix of movies on syfy.
Hi Andrewz!
This is only a teaser we shot specifically for the Syfy Channel, it's song that will be in Forbidden Zone 2, but NOT ACTUAL FOOTAGE OF FILM. We won't start shooting until early 2012. Sets won't be be CGI. Will keep you posted on www.richardelflman.com

Wow! Thanks for the reply Mr. Elfman. I'm anxious to see this no matter how it is done.

I had never even heard of the movie as I was born in 1983 but watching the preview it looks very interesting. The characters and the music are very cool. Will be watching it in the near future. Can't wait to see the second one already! :)
Since when has Richard been "Danny's Brother"? He threw his baby (albeit amazingly talented) bro a bone, and the rest is history. The letMystic Knights, Oingo Boingo, and Forbidden Zone are a huge reason I'm who I am today. I couldn't be more excited for what I've seen so far. I'm so happy to be living in LA, and looking forward to seeing whats going to happen as the release draws near.
