According to Variety, Disney executives will be meeting with producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski this weekend to decide on the fate of the Johnny Depp film THE LONE RANGER, for which production is currently on hold. It was originally expected to start filming in November to make the target release date of Christmas 2012.
However, reports stated that Disney became unhappy with the film's original budget of over $250 million, and is looking at ways to bring it down to the range of $200-250 million so that it is profitable.
Following this weekend's meeting, a final decision is expected by next week.
