Two members of one of the current crop of Jrock bands Cocoa Otoko [which translates into, I kid you not, Chocolate Men - and by current I mean they only just emerged last year] will be leading the cast in the upcoming film Miss Boys! by director Sakichi Sato. The two band members are Kamakari Kenta and Suzuki Shogo; lead vocals and guitar respectively [I looked it up! For real I did!]

Sato first caught our attention with the very dry but funny Tokyo Zombie back in 2005 with Tadanobu Asano and Sho Aikawa. He's been kind of struggling to stay on track since then and while there is no doubt that stocking your film with pretty young rock stars will put female fans in seats I struggle to find what the appeal of this story is...

Kamakari plays Sakamoto, the ace of the school's basketball team. However, in order to fix Sakamoto's "one-man team" mentality, the team's adviser orders him to join the cheering squad for two weeks. However, the squad is not a typical one, and he finds himself having to dress up like a female cheerleader at the team's matches. Suzuki plays a fellow student who learns to outgrow his shyness through the squad's cross-dressing.

I don't know what the angle is here but I don't think it is the 'Hello Mrs. Premise. Hello Mrs. Conclusion' angle that I was brought up with. Another image over at Eiga.com would suggest comedy but we'll know soon enough and we'll also have two opportunities to find out as the film will be split into two parts. The first part will screen in December followed closely by the second part in January.
