The long-running, genre-centric Lund International Fantastic Film Festival (the FFF for short), run by Twitch buddy Christian Hallman over in Sweden, has wrapped, but not before handing out a couple of awards.
The caustic, and controversial Jack Ketchum/Lucky McKee team-up, THE WOMAN, garnered the Siren Award, for best international release, and the Melies d'Argent award went to UK sci-fi actioner ATTACK THE BLOCK. One of my personal favorites of the year, Alex Chandon's INBRED, received a special mention, and animated short film TO SWALLOW A TOAD won a nomination for the Melies d'Or. Both ATTACK THE BLOCK and TO SWALLOW A TOAD will now compete in Sitges for Best European Fantastic Film, and short film.
The audience awards drop today or tomorrow, which are always my favorite awards given. I am really curious to see how other fest entries like INBRED and SENNENTUNTSCHI: CURSE OF THE ALPS do as well.
Keep your eyes peeled for a flood of interviews from the FFF coming over the next week, and stay tuned to the upcoming second season of The Night Crew to hear the greatly expanded audio versions.
Next year, I'm getting my ass to Lund.
