dragon tattoo poster.bmpHere's the new trailer for the much anticipated adaptation of the first book of Stieg Larsson's acclaimed trilogy by director David Fincher. Cast includes Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara, Robin Wright, Stellan Skarsgård, Christopher Plummer, Joely Richardson, Goran Visnjic, Julian Sands and Steven Berkoff.

Synopsis (if you haven't already read the novels or seen the Swedish film adaptation):

Disgraced journalist Mikael Blomqvist is hired by Henrik Vanger to investigate the disappearance of Vanger's great-niece Harriet. Henrik suspects that someone in his family, the powerful Vanger clan, murdered Harriet over forty years ago.

Starting his investigation, Mikael realizes that Harriet's disappearance is not a single event, but rather linked to series of gruesome murders in the past. He now crosses paths with Lisbeth Salander, a young computer hacker, an asocial punk and most importantly, a young woman driven by her vindictiveness.

Together they form an unlikely couple as they dive deeper into the violent past of the secretive Vanger family.

This film summary is cool, but it seems to be missing the ending.

Hollywood is at his peak on movie-making. But at his very bottom on story-making. It only copies better films from abroad and americanize them.

I actually see no difference to the original movie, except the actors are from Hollywood. I thought Fincher would make it unique.
Seems to be average.

The original was average at best. The only thing about it that stood out was Rapace's performance. This looks glorious.

I gotta say that apart from Zodiac I've been underwhelmed or uninterested in Fincher's output. This trailer does nothing to pique my interest so I'll probably just let the film pass me on by.

@ Joshua

The original was very tense. The second one was average, ok.
But as you mention- it "looks" glorious, yes. But it doesn't feel glorious or special in any way. It "looks" actually the same.

I'm kind of disappointed that Fincher choose to direct this. I'm by no means one of his fanatics but Zodiac was amazing and The Social Network, though a bit overpraised, was still a fascinating portrait of out times. I'm sure this will turn out better than the original film (which despite the massive hype was merely decent once you got past Rapace) but I was hoping for something a bit more ambitious.

that was one of the longest trailers i have ever sat through. the book was trivial garbage and the original film was a dull, tedious exercise in style over substance. i have no idea what fincher sees in this story that makes him want to try to stuff some meaning into it, but i guess i'll give it a try. i am not expecting much, though.

I take it that you've never seen the original film, then and are trying to be a smartarse.

In my opinion the previous trailer did a better job of making me curious. This one makes it seem like a pretty pedestrian exercise, the kind of European police (or journalist) television thriller of which hundreds are made in England and thousands in Germany.

Again, the sole draw here seems to be Salander and the promise of slightly more rape and torture. I generally have faith in Fincher but I am indeed curious if he'll be able to spin gold out of all this straw.

As long as it is faithful to the book, thats all I care about. I know its hard to compare the written word of an author and the readers imagination to the eyes of a director, but both can be good in their own way. I cant wait to see how Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig portray and carry their feelings of terror and horror. I just saw a new thriller called "Trespass" http://bitly.com/qN22Cm where Nic Cage and Nicole Kidman did a fantastic job of bringing fear and strength to survive together.
