The Japanese poster for Sion Sono's true-crime drama Guilty of Romance has been released. If nothing, it gives you a good look at the three main female characters in the film.

Starting from top to bottom we have Miki Mizuno as Kazuko, the police officer investigating the grisly murders. Then Megumi Kagurazaka as Izumi, the neglected housewife who find new life in the adult entertainment industry. And Makoto Togashi as Mitsuko, a professor of literature who doubles as a street hooker at night.

And then there is one of the corpses at the bottom, the missing body parts having been replaced by pieces of mannequins. Nice.

Set just before the turn of the 21st century, a grisly murder occurs in Maruyama-cho, Shibuya -- a love hotel district -- a woman was found dead in a derelict apartment in the pouring rain. Whilst the police investigate, the story interweaves with that of Izumi, the wife of a famous romantic novelist whose life seems just a daily repetition without romance. One day, to break away from the loveless monotony, she decides to follow her desires and accepts a job as a naked model faking sex in front of the camera. Soon she meets with a mentor and starts selling her body to strangers, whilst at home she hides behind the facade that she is still the wife she is supposed to be.

This guy is my favorite director right now... His fucking movies are mind-bowing, just a relentless punch and kick to the brain with pure adrenaline rush!!!!

I couldn't agree more, he's without a doubt the most interesting/awesome active director in Japan today!

I really dislike this poster, but I'm very interested to the film anyway.

Big Sion Sono fan, seen 8 of his films and he is the most unrated director out there but that poster is shit.

I'm just now discovering Sion Sono. Besides Cold Fish what other films of his should I check out?

As a card carrying Sono Fanboy, my $.02: "Love Exposure" next. Very few people thought its four hour runtime was long. Then, if you like that more than "Cold Fish", I'd go back to his beginning and watch, in order, "Suicide Club", "Noriko's Dinner Table", "Strange Circus". If you liked "Cold Fish" more than "Love Exposure", you might instead jump to his mid-period and watch his other two boring, annoying films about men which feature men yelling a lot: "Into a Dream" and "Hazard".

"Exte: Hair Extensions", a sort of satire on Japanese horror films, is a bit goofy but enjoyable and can be thrown in at any time for spice. I'd save the nearly sublime "Be Sure to Share" for last. A personal film, and arguably his only 'normal' film, it sheds a little light on why his films about men are shallow and uninteresting. He has daddy issues.

Then kick back and hope "Kikyû club, sonogo" (Balloon Club, Afterwards) becomes available some day.
