Director Bryan Singer's SUPERMAN RETURNS was met with mixed reviews upon its release in 2006. Now, as an extra feature on the Superman Anthology Blu-ray edition, a never-before-seen alternate opening for the film, has become available. Reportedly, the 5 minute sequence cost $10 million to make; and as you can see, it features a return to Krypton for the superhero, and it looks slow and strangely mesmerizing.
Synopsis (via IMDb): After a long visit to the lost remains of the planet Krypton, the Man of Steel returns to Earth to become the people's savior once again and reclaim the love of Lois Lane.
Embedded below is the alternate opening sequence.

parts of this sequence appeared in the very first teaser. I was wondering when we'd see the complete footage. It does stand apart from the finished movie but interesting nonetheless.
Yep very interesting. Not relevant to the story and probably where about 10M of Singer's bloated 250M budget went.
I've said it before SR could have been made with half the budget it was given and would have been a commercial success for the studio.
A character drama never needs a quarter of a billion budget. It just encourages waste, which is exactly what happened!
