The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has just announced that Brett Ratner will be joining veteran Academy Award producer Don Mischer in producing next year's show. When discussing his selection, Academy President Tom Sherak commented that Ratner "is unbelievably creative and knows how to take risks that are both interesting and inspiring."
Ratner is the director of films such as the RUSH HOUR movie franchise, RED DRAGON, X-MEN: THE LAST STAND and the upcoming TOWER HEIST. "It will be fantastic to work with a live television master like Don (Mischer) to meld the glamour of legendary Hollywood with the enormous talents who thrill moviegoers today," Ratner said in a statement.
The 2012 Academy Award ceremony will be held on February 26.

Guess this is their newest attempt to draw in the young crowd. Not a fan of Ratner but I'm sure he'll have some better ideas than this year's abortion of a show, though in the end the Academy's uptight nature will probably prevail and we'll get the same old 4-hour block of toothless jokes and self-congratulation.

Yep, that made me think immediately of Brett Ratner. Ehm...
