Watching Once Upon a Time in the West is like watching the paint on the world's most interesting painting dry. It starts out glistening, constantly reminding you of the bold strokes that created it, only to settle down into it's various parts to form a breathtaking picture, an absorbing wonderment that seems to utterly define not only where the modern western has been headed but what brought the genre to that locality in the first place. The serials, heap oaters meet the Hawksian vision and Fordian grandeur until it none are left standing, the bad guys have won, the frontier never looked so fearful or so beautiful- especilly on Bluray. This film has simply never looked or sounded better than it does here. if you have been waiting for a reason to watch it or pick it up then wait no further. Sergio Leone's signature film has been beautifully restored and is offered in both a restored and theatrical version. The Bluray also includes commentary from director John Carpenter whose own interest in westerns is legendary, along with John Milius, Alex Cox, and film historians Sir Christopher Frayling, Dr. Sheldon Hall, cast and crew. Rounding out the special features are 5 great featurettes, a production gallery and a theatrical trailer in HD.
