Feel like being SUCKER PUNCHed? Even on BLURAY it underwhelms.

This underwhelming effort from visionary director Zack Snyder lacks exactly what made all his other films films work; a strong sense of what makes the tale worth telling. I'm a big fan of Dawn of the Dead (2004) and 300 (2006) and even Watchmen (2009) and Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole (2010), for all their issues, had their hearts in the right place. Sucker Punch feels just like what the title implies. It feels like I've had my trust violated a little. There are nothing but visuals here. Everything else is clearly taking a backseat to the overblown mildly interesting CGI action sequences. And it must be mentioned that for a film that is supposedly about self empowerment the overall aesthetic, which mixes sexual and physical abuse and school girl fetishism is troubling in all the wrong ways. And for an R rated film utilizing sexual metaphors it doesn't go nearly far enough or demonstrate ideological confidence n what makes the story interesting to begin with. You get a few extras including behind the scenes featurettes but the real bonus here is Snyder's pic inĀ  pic commentary

I feel like we saw two different films by the same name after reading that review. I guess this is a polarizing film, either you love it or hate it.

It was polarizing, wasn't it? Count me on the love side as well--I can't imagine a more interesting movie coming out of Hollywood this year.

I call this the Sucker Punch wars, Every single site with a talk back section has been nothing but a battlefield when it comes to this movie.
Me? I dig the hell out of it, god damn if it's not forward thinking cinema. And i love variety in films and this one had everything. really, are you guys telling me this is worst then god damn "transformers the dark side of my ass"? Any way. Blue ray bought already, and the extended edition is even better.
Now, don't chop me to pieces ok?

"Forward-thinking cinema"?

Wha-uh?

Yes, I'm telling you that this is worse than TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF YOUR ASS. How sad, in 2011, there's nothing but degrees of awful to argue about!

I thought 300 was the nadir of contemporary cinema. I was wrong.

If you liked SUCKER PUNCH, I'd like to ask you...stop using my air.
