The remake train from Hollywood to Hong Kong goes both way. According to Channelnewsasia.com, action star Donnie Yen has signed on to appear alongside actress Cecilia Cheung in Assassin Couple, a remake of the 2005 action thriller Mr. and Mrs. Smith with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. In the original, the film deals with an unhappy married couple who are highly skilled secret assassins, yet neither spouse are aware until they are surprised to find each other as targets. As they attempt to assassin each other, they learned to reconciled their marriage and reignited a loving relationship. New Asia Entertainment Group (AEG) announced that their adaptation, while similar in having martial arts and gunplay action involved, it will featured a different storyline entirely. The film is budgeted at (S$18.7 million) with almost half going towards the lead stars paycheck.
Shooting is scheduled to begin in March of next year.

Oh Cecilia is back. Nice.
I would have posted the Mr. and Mrs. Smith poster with Donnie and Cecilia's faces superimpose on the head but I have no time.
This is one remake which can't help but be better than the original.
It's good to see Donnie return to modern action movies but a remake of Mr. & Mrs. Smith is far beyond his standards. I think retellings of the gritty/realistic action movies he's known for would be best for him. Plus I can't see Cecilia Cheung in Jolie's part at all.
Oh well, if this goes through for Donnie and it's claimed that it will be a different story then it better be far beyond the sappy approach of that in the original.
Donnie! Hook up with Dante Lam to do some movies!!
I agree with DooK. I would've preferred Tang Wei instead of Cecilia Cheung.
