Rumblings of a fifth installment of the Die Hard franchise have been circulating for better than a year now with things appearing to firm up in June when word broke that Noam Murro had been attached to direct with a script being written by Skip Woods.
Since Murro's attachment to Die Hard 5 became public knowledge the director has also been attached to direct 300 prequel Xerxes (aka 300: Battle Of Artemisia) and Twitch has learned that the demands of Xerxes have led to Murro having to exit Die Hard 5. Who will take the helm in his place? Nothing is definite yet but our sources tell us that John Moore (Behind Enemy Lines, Max Payne) has been told that the film is essentially his to take or leave.
While the directing situation on Die Hard 5 is not yet clear we do have the first real plot details for the picture. In keeping with the trend of each Die Hard movie being larger than the last the fifth installment is going to move into international territory. Our sources tell us Die Hard 5 will be set largely in Russia with John McClane accompanied there by his son and the two drawn into a conflict with local forces. Cue multi-generational wisecracking.

John McTiernan. I desperately want that guy to make a good movie again, plus he knows the franchise and the character. Certainly better than the hacktastic Len Wiseman.

They should give McTiernan the chance!
Man, after hearing Kevin Smith's stories about working with Willis he's the last movie star I'd ever want to direct.
Not that I'm ever in danger of being in that situation, of course.
For Hollywood executives, directors are mere pawns. Take this example from Hell. "Breaking News. Park Chan-wook have to exit Oldboy because of differences with producers. They look attaching Michael Bay to the project."
They should give the gig to Skip Woods, he directed a great wee film called Thursday back in 98, and he has not directed since..
I think this is going to kill the franchise. Well, at least until they reboot it.
I think they just should have stopped after the first film. DH 2 was well crafted but lacked the initimacy of the first. With A Vengance I found superior mostly due to the supporting cast but it was excessive. The less said about 4 the better.
I thought Len Wiseman did a great job with part 4, and was hoping he'd return for the fifth movie. I'm all in favor of a fifth movie, but I really hope John Moore would do a better directing job than with his last movies if he accepts.
Behind Enemy Lines and Max Payne were showcases of how much he doesn't know how to film action scenes and needs camera tricks to substitute for craftsmanship. Since Bruce Willis said he'd work with Wiseman again, I don't know why he doesn't push for it.
