Watch Eight Minutes Of Peter Chan's WU XIA

by Al Young, June 10, 2011 4:41 PM

Liu Jin-xi (Donnie Yen) is a papermaker who lives a seemingly normal life with his wife (Tang Wei) and two children in a remote village. But his peaceful life is soon to be disrupted when a determined detective (Takeshi Kaneshiro) digs up his past and his for master (Jimmy Wang Yu) tries to hunt him down.
In Todd's review of Peter Chan's Wu Xia at the Cannes Film Festival, he wrote "Chan seems surprisingly disinterested in delivering any sort of conventional take on what most fans of the wuxia genre would expect from a film of that title." Its a comment that will become clear to you after checking out this clip.  The direction seems like something straight out of Sherlock Holmes or CSI: Crime Scene Investigation with an uniquely shot fight scene. Interesting approach.

You'll find the eight and a half minute clip (No English subtitles) embedded below. It arrives in Hong Kong/China theaters on July 4th.

Donnie's fight choreography here reminds me of Ip Man, The Blade and a bit of Jackie's stuff. Great mixture!

Chinese/Hong Kong release has been moved back to July 4.

This looks amazing. I love the different take on this type of film. It still looks like there will be plenty of jaw dropping fight scenes, so i hope this movie delivers... i'm tired of seeing "watered down" Donnie Yen, or "Over the top Silly" Donnie Yen (Legend of the Fist sucked).

Please let this be good!

Very good video
