That the early screenings of JJ Abrams' Super 8 have drawn sharply divided opinions is not, frankly, a good thing. Those early screenings were packed with hand selected press, publicists pulling in the voices that they felt would be most supportive, and if a carefully tailored room like that is unable to make up their minds as to whether they saw a good movie or not ... well, there are probably some flies in the ointment.
That said, the ad campaign for this has set expectations so high that anything less than outright brilliance was sure to disappoint on some level and so I still plan on giving it a go - with The Boy in tow - on opening weekend.
With the release coming soon a second full trailer has been released for the film. Trailer one played up the kid adventure angle, so it was somewhat predictable that this one would emphasize the action elements to try and draw in a wider audience. I'm betting it'll work, because it's a solid trailer. Take a look below.
