Official Green-Band Trailer For Fincher's THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO

No more cam-job. No more side-boob. While Sony had the 'leaked' cam version of the European red-band trailer for David Fincher's The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo removed from YouTube yesterday they have followed it today with the official release of the US green band version.

Sony's handling of the trailer release feels to me like one of the great recent moves in viral marketing - think about it, who announces that they're putting a red band trailer in theaters but not releasing it then sits quietly for days while a suspiciously high quality version of that same trailer racks up massive traffic and chatter online? It's a classic case of creating desire by 'denying' access - but it would have all been for naught if the trailer itself didn't look good. And it does. Very.

This new green band version is structured essentially the same was as the red band version, only with certain shots swapped out to remove the moments of brief nudity that earned the first version the red-band status. Check it below to get a taste of Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara in the US version of the international hit novels. And, yes, the fabulous Led Zeppelin cover by Trent Reznor and Karen O remains intact as the soundtrack.

The soundtrack cover of Led Zep's "Immigrant Song" is by Trent Reznor and Karen O of Yeah Yeah Yeahs, not Rooney Mara.

Duh. Brain cramp. Guess what I was looking at as I wrote that.

I agree, if the Red Band had been a bad trailer then yeah I would have been a little ticked at the "leaked" tactic but damn either trailer does it for me.As a side note, why don't they do red band trailers any longer with the appropriate film? I can remember they would show a red band trailer in front of R rated films and then some point in the 90's (?) they stopped that all together.

To me it's obviously just another leak. Sony had to take down the "pirated" trailer, but they didn't want a break in their "viral" campaign, so they put up an unofficial greenband version, a couple of days before releasing it officially. Movie-List doesn't put up trailers like that, the whole point of the site is sharing download links between trailer.. err.. aficionados.

Or you can assume that the trailer was really pirated, and Sony didn't notice until the whole internet pointed them to it. And _then_ that they gave out download links to their partners way ahead of the official release. And _then_ that someone shared these links on Movie-List and the admins over there deleted the post and put up the trailer for embedding with their logo all over it.

Pretty much impossible for a trailer in this state to actually leak. This is a proper digital file, not a cam, and already with the MPAA banner on it. The only place this could have come from is within Sony. And no way that happened accidentally. Fincher is hands on with his marketing, if someone slipped this out early then that person has been tracked down and fired by now. And Movie-List would have been hit with a cease and desist notice within an hour of posting it.

The Feel Bad Movie Of Christmas.....I'm sold....Loved the original, i'm sure Fincher will bring something fresh to this version...

The original Swedish film adaption set a very high standard. I was disappointed, but obviously not surprised when I heard there would a be a US adaption/remake/whatever you want to call it.

I must say, this is an impressive trailer (I've seen the Red version as well). At the very least, this won't suck. From the looks, this will be one the more grittier, risqué American thrillers in a long time, which despite Hollywood's current obsession with making Foreign films (which I hate), is much needed.

Whether or not this surpasses it's Swedish brother remains to be seen (a long shot), but I will say the latter two Swedish films in the trilogy can be greatly improved upon (they were mostly forgettable, especially the 3rd film).
