Trailer and Poster Alert: GUT Intrigues

by Charles Webb, May 21, 2011 6:14 PM

GUT.jpgWriter/director/producer Elias' film Gut is in post-production, but he was kind enough to send along the trailer for this thriller that seems to have elements of anything between Hardcore and A Serbian Film. This indie starring Jason Vail, Nicholas Wilder, and Sarah Schoofs is about the perils of going too far down the sketchy boredom hole when curiosity and boredom catch up to you.

Here's the official synopsis:

Something is missing in Tom's life. His marriage has lost its spark, his job is suffocating him, and his childhood best friend Dan still clings to the past. Every day he goes through the motions, becoming increasingly detached from those around him. Dan has the solution... something Tom's got to see to believe... tonight. What Dan shows him leaves Tom unsettled, flooding his mind with disturbing images, and binding the two friends together with its ugly secret.

Nice editing and soundtrack but the performances are a bit overdone. In the first diner sequence when the actor says "maybe I just need a vacation" it feels very much like he's reciting a script. There's no pause for reflection. However, despite the length of the trailer, it never gives too much away. But I'm always wary of anyone so convinced of their own self-importance that they only use one name.

Regarding the diner sequence, I'd say that is almost certainly a product of the editing, not necessarily the performance.

I'm intrigued.
