Oh, good, Hobbit news that doesn't involve fires, hospitalizations, labor disruptions or any other sundry unpleasantness.
Peter Jackson's two part adaptation of The Hobbit has now been granted individual titles and release date. Part one releases December 14th, 2012 under the title The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey while part two arrives December 13th, 2013 as The Hobbit: There And Back Again.
Beyond the titles, which should - like he needs the credibility - remind people once again that Jackson knows his source material, what I really want to know is what he's doing to the material structurally and, once and for all, if he's including the referenced-but-never-actually-written battle between the wizards and the Necromancer in Mirkwood. The presence of Legolas suggests he is, as does the announced casting of Sylvester McCoy as Radagast, but nobody has actually come out and said so yet.

Um, Todd, you may want to double check those release dates, as you've got part one premiering the day after part two.
Heh. Part two is a year later. Why don't I just go and fix that ...
It would be pretty cool to include the battle of the wizards and the Necromancer. Maybe Bilbo will wonder where Gandalf is, and they could cut to the five wizards engaged in a full out battle. Or maybe it could be a flashback to start off part 2. I think the first movie should start with Smaug laying waste to the dwarves in The Lonely Mountain, though maybe they could offer only shadowy glimpses of him as he blasts everything with flame. These movies are going to be awesome!
Well Jackson has just said that The Whiter Council and also Dol Goldur are in the films...
