I've been pretty vocal about my love for Djo Munga's Congolese noir VIVA RIVA!, singing its praises to anyone who will listen and now news has arrived that Music Box Films will be releasing it in the US on June 10. The film is a tough, sexy thriller set in present day Kinshasa that is incredibly accomplished, especially when you consider it's the first film to emerge from the Congo in 20 years and it rightly swept the board at this year's African Film Awards.
The US trailer is playing exclusively over on the Apple site right now and I urge you to click the link below and check it out and then go seek out the movie if it plays anywhere near you! It's one of the most exciting things I've seen all year.

I'm very thrilled that Twitch is the only big film site that's showing this remarkable film some love! From what I hear, it's on the same level as City of God was!
There's nothing remarkable about that trailer except for the absurd narration at the beginning. I don't doubt the film might be good, and I'm interested in any film coming from somewhere besides Hollywood, but that trailer does less than zero to set it apart from anything.
