On Friday Twitch brought word of Dead Shadows, a new French creature horror from director David Cholewa. though a first time director Cholewa has been around the international genre film scene for long enough now that he knows full well what you really need to play in this space is a quality premise well executed. We know he's got the premise - a young man beating off an influx of hungry tentacle monsters brought on by a passing comet - which means the question is now whether he can execute.
Though the film is still in principal photography Cholewa has passed along a pair of stills from the shoot and the first teaser. And included in the teaser is the first glimpse of the creature effects.

Dead Shadows tells the terrifying story about a young man, Chris, whose parents were brutally killed 11 years ago, on the same day that the comet of haley could be seen from earth. Tonight, a new comet is going to appear and everyone in his building are getting ready for a party to celebrate the event. There's even an apocalypse theory going around. As the night falls, Chris starts to discover that people are acting strange - and it seems to somehow be connected to the comet. People are becoming disoriented and violent and it doesn't take long before they start mutating into something from beyond this world. In a fight for survival, Chris has to try to escape from his building with the help from some other tenants - but will they make it out alive?

The poster and stills look better than the teaser, but hopefully the effects are just in preliminary stages and not final. Love the concept though :)
Yeah I'm not a fan of the look of the trailer. Hopefully it was a reel created to fund the idea. The still looks much better.
Hello my name is David Cholewa producer and director of Dead Shadows .Unfortunately we had only a week after the editing of the teaser to finish it on time for Cannes and we didn't have time for colour correction.
Same for the effects we had to rush.
That's why we will continue the shooting a little later (end of june) to have more time for the special effects and everything else.
I am a true horror fan and want to make the movie i would have liked to see on a big screen even with limited budget.
As for the budget ,we have a very small one and we wanted to show that with NO BUDGET we can do some interesting and honest horror movies.
More news soon
Take care
David Cholewa
