Impressive SciFi Action Picture THE LAST CAUSE Drumming Up Support

Up until recently my general policy on covering crowd-funded projects starting up from scratch has been not to write about them. The reason is simple. There are too many and most will never be made, meaning coverage offered to them would result in a pretty horrible signal:noise ratio.

I'm revising that policy now to say this: I will only cover crowd funded projects which I find impressive and promising enough to support myself. You may draw the obvious conclusion about Linh Mai's The Last Cause.

An action oriented science fiction picture that cites Gundam and Blade Runner among its key influences, The Last Cause is currently drumming up backing to create a proper proof of concept reel to prove to larger scale investors that they've got the goods to pull this off on a feature scale. And based on what I've seen I'd say they do.

Washington DC, 2043. Ten years after a massive terror attack that ended 300.000 human lives.

The US became a closed, surveillance state to prevent potential attacks from the outside. People gave up their privacy and identity for more safety and security. The US and the other world powers have heavily upgraded arms. Mistrust and skepticism between the countries have led to a new cold war in which the latest developments in technology are channeled into the development of new weapons.

Mechs - manned robots - and drones comb through the dark, chaotic streets of Washington DC, fighting terror groups, fanatic religious brotherhoods who prophesy the end of the world and normal people who fight for their freedom.

I'm actually interested in supporting a feature film like this but I too hope it doesn't turn out to be one of those eggs you invest in only to find out that its disappeared into thin air like a lot of other kickstart projects.

Best of luck with the project (i.e. funding).

Wow, just judging from that screen I'd say they should also be citing Metal Gear Solid as a major influence.
