CAPTAIN AMERICA Trailer Gets It Very, Very Right

I missed this while traveling but now that I've seen it it very definitely bears pointing out. The full trailer for Joe Johnston's Captain America: The First Avenger gets things very, very right.

I haven't been shy about my concerns with this one and my worry that the basic premise of the character may be a bit too silly, a bit to "Go America, rah rah!" to play seriously on the big screen. Well, they made it anyway and, with the arrival of the full trailer, I am 100% sold. Kick ass.

My only problem is scrawny Chris Evans. I know he's supposed to make a dramatic change from wimp to super soldier but his head looks worse than Clu's in Tron Legacy. At least we won't have to stare at it the whole movie.

To coin your term: tasty.

This is Universal Sodier 4: Back In Time.
It's Van Dammes grandpa actually....

That does look about ten times better than I expected. Hm... would be fun if both this and "Thor" turn out to be quite enjoyable blockbusters in the end, same as "Iron Man" was.

I must admit, that it looks good, but I was never a Captain America fan, even as a young boy I couldn't see how his powers were any kind of match for other Marvel characters. Also being British, I was more into Captain Britain, at least there was a more mystical, historical vibe to his powers.
Antway, I am looking forward to Thor, and the way Branagh uses his Shakesperean chops in the Marvel Universe!

Ditto bewarethemoon. I don't know anyone who is a Captain America fan. He's an icon but fairly bland from what I remember from the comics. That said, the trailer is surprisingly not awful.

Cap fan here. First, bewarethemoon, while Cap's powers could'nt hold a candle to guys like the Hulk or Thor, he does kind of fall in the middle of the vast swathe of Marvel Superheros. I mean, he definitely beats out the Vigilante types like Daredevil and Punisher. As for who is better, Rogers or Braddock, two words, Alan Moore (though, that whole thing were Captain Britain loses his powers the further away he is from the British Isles; a little silly).

Airchinapilot, your pretty much right about Cap being way too apple pie most of the time (basically Superman without the cool powers to entertain and distract your). Really, I mostly liked Cap from reading the Avengers. However, his whole "Man Without a Country" phase did a good job of at least trying to make him more interesting. Also the latest reboot of Cap (before the whole mess of the Civil War), was some pretty great story-telling.

Ah, Adobe Flash Player. The dog-raping Goatse of the internet video player universe...

How do they remain in business? Is there a market for 'We make your high-quality videos stream like mosaic-filled Japanese porn on a 54Kb dialup connection!"? Just curious.

The trailer (the parts I could watch, anyway) was so-so. Not terrible, but not great. Seems like even more of a masturbation fantasy for 13-year-old Caucasian American boys than the Spiderman films. At least the Iron Man films had the always-charming Downey.
