Heya Twitchers, just a little nugget of Takashi Miike goodness real quick. John Wildman at the Film Society of Lincoln Center is being kind enough to keep us updated on the Shinjuku Outlaw festival happening right now in honor of Mr. Miike. Here's his last update for those who can't be there.
This is direct from Mr. Wildman, and the screening which JUST let out moments ago as of this posting.
The screening of 13 ASSASSINS was literally standing room only. (I counted three empty seats before I sat down myself.)
The official language of the donation situation:
Due to the catastrophic events in Japan, The Film Society of Lincoln Center and Subway Cinema are partnering with The Japan Society and will donate 10% of ticket sales for all screenings for the Takashi Miike retrospective, Shinjuku Outlaw: 13 From Takashi Miike, to the Japan Earthquake Relief Fund, to support relief and recovery for the 2011 Tohoku - Pacific Ocean Earthquake.
Choice quotes and responses:
During the Q&A Miike said he grew up on samurai films and Bruce Lee movies. Asked if that meant he was due to make a Kung Fu movie, he laughed and said that GREEN HORNET 2 would be his next film.
He was also asked if the emotional tone of 13 ASSASSINS reflected a softening of his style. Miike replied, "I may just come around next time with something even more violent appalling than I've done before." Then he laughed and said that he actually just finished a children's movie.
There you go. Put this up fast because there were other people with cameras there.
All the best,
John
Like I said, nothing super major, but given the circumstances, I'm glad to have this to bring to you all. We are working on/hoping for something very special from the event very soon as well. If anything, look here after the fest for a full re-cap courtesy of Mr. Wildman.
Check below the break for a trailer of 13 Assassins to see what those of us not in attendance missed! And...to hear some misplaced music by The Eagles!
