Aronofsky Drops Out Of WOLVERINE

So much for that elusive Darren Aronofsky superhero film.

The director of Black Swan and The Wrestler has long stated his desire to make a superhero movie. Batman almost happened before it moved on to Christopher Nolan, with Aronofsky actively developing his own take on the character at one point. And then, finally, it looked like he'd get his shot at superhero glory by reuniting with The Fountain star Hugh Jackman on Wolverine. Signed, sealed, delivered, right? Uh ... not so much.

Aronofsky has just dropped out of the Wolverine project, which was to be based in Japan, saying that he didn't want to be out of the country for the year it would take to make the film. Personally, I wonder if the current state of Japan had an impact on the decision as the duration and location of the shoot would have been well established before Aronofsky signed on in the first place.

No word yet on who will replace him.

Hmmm. seems weird. If the current situation was a factor you'd think it would have affected the entire production and they would have been comfirtable announcing such a hiatus. Either way, the news he has left the project sucks big time, for whatever reason.

Good. He can do far better a superhero than Wolverine, and surely given Jackman's continuation, he'd have to find some connection to the previous mindless piece of trash. And any connection means UUUUrrrggghh.
Aronofsky is far better away from Wolverine in my opinion, working on an untouched or un-thought of project/hero, ideally discovering a character/hero who may not traditionally be embraced by the public.
He'd rock it to the Casbah.

I think if allowed to actually adapt the Claremont/Miller Wolverine in Japan arc to film that Aronofsky would not be above the content in someway... But I doubt they'd give him that leeway.

I'm surprised they don't just offer it to Chris McQuarrie to also direct.

A Doctor Strange movie in the style of Pi would be pretty awesome. Do it, Aronofsky!
