Two of the most distinctive voices in the world of animation tackling one of the most distinctive voices in science fiction? What's not to like? Well, the fact that it's only a short instead of a feature, for one, but that's about it.

"Maska" ("Mask") is the latest animated film of Quay brothers, directors and puppet animators, with the music composed by Krzysztof Penderecki. The screenplay is the adaptation of Stanisław Lem's novel of the same title. The action of "Maska" is set in a technologically developed but, at the same time, feudal world. Beautiful Duenna was created in order to carry out certain mission. However, she will be forced to choose between accomplishing the task she was created for and love.

HOLY SHIT! Yay!
I love how the Quays are making use of glow filters, diffusion and possibly plugins here. They are incredible at creating atmosphere and their love of Muybridge is becoming more apparent in their work. If only they would embark on an all animated feature, that would be indescribable. i'm looking forward to their MOMA screening later this year when they present the Mutter Museum short.
Oh my god oh my god oh my god...
These guys make me forget about the flying spaghetti monster, AND the fact that I'm no longer 15 years old...
