From HOBO To RIKI-OH, Jason Eisener Spills On His (Hopeful) Next Project

by Todd Brown, January 24, 2011 12:02 PM

How do you follow up a debut film like Hobo With A Shotgun? If you're director Jason Eisener with a quasi-tribute to kung fu splatter picture Riki-Oh (The Story Of Ricky). Eisener spilled a few scant details in an interview with Bloody Disgusting saying only that the as yet untitled film will be martial arts based and that "there will be blood and guts." Beyond what is said there I can also tell you that the initial plans are for it to be a tournament-style fight film and that Eisener's love of professional wrestling - he tried to cast Jake The Snake Roberts for a role in Hobo - will have an impact on the design and showmanship of the piece.

That said, this is still in very, very early days and I know of at least one other project in active pursuit of Eisener to direct so he's going to have a few options as far as what to do next.

This should make Grindhouse-fake-trailer TeamMate Edgar Wright very happy.

Why?
Is he planning a full-length Fulci tribute called "DON'T"?

Wright has personally introduced prints of RICKY-OH (The Story of Ricky) in Toronto at two different venues, over a year apart. He has a quite hilarious way of intro-ing the film using IMDb Key Words. Very Funny, and clearly he is a big fan of the film, and the absurdist style, which is echoed (from what I've seen) in much of Eisener's work.

Edgar Wright is cool people.
He also discusses the "Bay of Blood" trailers on the BluRay of that film, and what he has to say about the film and its different trailers is both insightful and very funny.
