First Look At Rooney Mara In Fincher's THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO

Mara vs Rapace. Let the debate begin now.

With David Fincher's adaptation of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo now well under way - and be clear that this is a fresh adaptation of the novel rather than a straight remake of the Swedish film version, with apparently significant alterations made along the way - the director has overseen a photo shoot of star Rooney Mara in character as Lisbeth Salander for a lengthy profile piece in the current issue of W magazine. And, yeah, she seems to have the look and the attitude.

Though W is not what I'd call a regular read this piece on Fincher is interesting stuff, the range of questions going far wider than just Dragon Tattoo. The piece confirms that Die Antwoord's Yo-Landi Visser was, indeed, in active consideration for the part and that Fincher made his final decision after putting the short list of actresses through the most difficult test possible. With minimal lead time he made them use the infamous rape scene as their audition. Says Fincher about the audition, "We had five or six girls audition with the rape scene. The girls had to kick a dildo up his ass. That's Salander's big scene, and we had to see if they could do it."

Apparently fans worried about a sanitized version of the story need not worry.

"His" not being Fincher's, I hasten to add after reading the article...
Fincher does come across as a bit weird in the article though. And the more I read about this production the more I keep scratching my head. But ever since "Seven" David Fincher hasn't failed to deliver on the promises of his projects, so... fingers crossed.

Incidentally, the Dutch television just showed all six Millennium episodes, as every other station in Europe has done by now I think.
This makes me wonder if there will be a market for this film over here when it's released. People will have read the books, seen the Swedish movies already (all quite successful over here) and those who missed them have now seen the series.

Sure. Whatever lets him sleep at night, I suppose.

This is a case where I am not bothered by the remake thing. First of all, this is Fincher we're talking about. I know Benjamin Button sucked, but come on. The Social Network renewed my faith. Plus, he's back in dark territory.

Secondly, and I know I'm gonna get shit for this, neither the book nor the original film are that great. The ending of the book is... meh. Too far fetched, to many crazy ideas trying to be crammed together. The fact that the new script has completely changed the ending (according to W magazine) is a huge plus in my book.

Also, most of the book consists of Blomkvist doing research, which doesn't make for a very exciting film. Unless it is directed by David Fincher, who did just that with Zodiac.
