[Post updated to include the trailer for Nordaas' previous short film In Chambers]

This would appear to be the year of Norwegian folk tales on the big screen. The Nordic countries - and northern Europe in general - have rich traditions of myth and folklore that are little known outside of their own borders but with The Troll Hunter hitting Sundance and Aleksander Nordaas' Thale coming later this year, Norway's mythic creatures are getting a big boost.

Nordaas' picture revolves around a huldra - a seductive forest spirit who appears from the front to be a beautiful young woman but who also has a cow's tale and whose back appears to be like a hollowed out tree. The huldra has been known to offer rewards to those who satisfy them sexually and death to those who fail to do so and are also prone to stealing human babies. You can learn more about them here.

Thale is taking a realistic, largely effects-free approach to the material and, though the picture still has several months before it is complete, we are proud to premiere the first teaser here on Twitch. Check it - and a gallery of images, plus the trailer for Nordaas' previous short film In Chambers - below.

Excellent I like this idea a lot. But the barf-yellow colour palette is doing the film no favours.

They haven't started post on it yet, Kurt, so I imagine the colour palette may be tempered somewhat once they get into the colour correction process. And I realized after posting this that I've actually seen the director's previous short - In Chambers - which screened at Fantastic Fest and in one of my programs at the Worldwide Short Film Festival. I'm adding the trailer for that to this post as well so you can get a taste of what he's about .... guy's good ...

Ahhh, this would make more sense...I wonder if the shot this on a DSLR?

Hi Kurt!

They used Panasonic HVX 200, HD. Just talked with the director.

I was just wondering. Where can I watch both movies? I know the Thale isn't finish and stuff, but In Chambers? Where? :D
