Kudos to the boys at Bloody Disgusting, who seem to have gotten the jump on everyone with word that Chris Kentis and Laura Lau's The Silent House has been added to the midnight lineup at Sundance.
A remake of Uruguayan single take horror La Casa Muda, this English language version stars Elizabeth Olsen - yes, she's their sister - Eric Sheffer Stevens and Julia Taylor Ross and arrives at Sundance just eight months after the original Spanish language version premiered in Cannes 2010. Which is rather quick. Here's hoping that they spent at least a little bit of that time to fix the glaring logic problems of the original - problems bad enough that they landed it in my worst films of 2010 list despite being otherwise impressive.

Production on this must have started before Cannes, right? Otherwise, this seems way too fast.
Production started late summer. As this is a one-take film, it's not like much editing / post-prod time needs to be scheduled!
And I was assured by the sales agent that Todd's (and other people's) beefs with the original had been taken into serious consideration when working on the remake. We'll see what that makes of it!
(sigh) another extremely quick and pointless U.S. remake of an original foreign film. Yes, I agree with Todd and others that the original was maddening but at least it was innovative. It's just a shame that this remake will take credit for the novel idea of the original since we all know most of the unknowing U.S. audiences will see this and be oblivious to the original. Admittedly, for those who have seen the original, I think we all would like a remake to improve on it but those hopes are dashed upon looking at the casting. An Olsen sister? REALLY? Is that the best they could do? Why, was Miley Cyrus too busy smoking weed (err, Salvia)? How about Paris Hilton or Britney Spears...surely, they would've been interested, right? Or was the script not challenging enough for them? They might as well thrown in a rapper in there, too. What a freakin' joke.
