Awards season is upon us and Australia have just handed out their biggest prizes with happy results, indeed, for David Michôd's Sundance winner Animal Kingdom.

Nominated for a whopping eighteen awards Animal Kingdom took ten of them including Best Film, Best Direction (Michôd), Best Screenplay (Michôd), Best Lead Actor (Ben Mendelsohn), Best Supporting Actor (Joel Edgerton), and Best Lead Actress (Jacki Weaver).

Weaver today was also awarded Best Supporting Actress by the LA Film Critic's Association so this bodes well for the Aussie veteran leading in to the big US awards.

Frankly every single one of these awards is richly deserved. This is a flat out fantastic film that deserved a hell of a lot more love than it received on its US release and my guess is you'll see it on more than one of our own Best Of lists here at Twitch over the next couple weeks.

Definitely deserved of all these awards. Best crime film I saw all of last year. Jackie Weaver is just chilling and the kid who was the protagonist was excellent as well.
