Originally created as a stand alone video release, Kenji Kamiyama's Ghost In The Shell Stand Alone Complex: Solid State Society - the feature length release that is the final entry in the Stand Alone Complex world - is being retrofitted to 3D for a March theatrical release in Japan.
Details are scarce so far but word is that Kamiyama will personally supervise the conversion process while production house Production IG will be creating a new opening sequence to take full advantage of the technology.

Hey Todd, do you know whether Kamiyama and Production I.G. are planning a new SAC chapter in any format?
This is one of those occasions where up-converting to 3D might actually work. Many elements in Solid State Society were already cgi and exist in some Production I.G. database as a 3D object already.
Add all the stuff they did for Ghost in the Shell 2.0 (and maybe even Innocence) and there is lots of materials to work with...
