Even an 'Outcast' has a North American home at Indomina Releasing

We`re quite smitten with Colm and Tom McCarthy`s Celtic horror Outcast offering festival goers a glimpse into ancient Celtic occult and mysticism. Or maybe it was just Hanna Stanbridge? No. It was more than her. Though hampered by some less than stellar effects near the end of the film we were nonetheless impressed with the strength of Colm's direction and vision. Outcast is one of a few impressive and promising offerings in genre cinema to come out of the U.K. recently.  And anyone not able to see this film on the festival circuit probably/maybe will get a chance to see it now that Indomina Releasing has the North American rights for the film.

"A crowd favorite at this year's SXSW and Screamfest LA, Colm McCarthy's OUTCAST presents a suspenseful twist to horror cinema," said Singh Mann.  "OUTCAST brings another dimension to the Indomina brand, demonstrating once again that Indomina is the premiere destination for genre based content."

Some day, Idomina Releasing is going to tell us what their plans are for all these acquisitions they have been making over the past few months. Until then they're reminding me of another company that did a lot of buying and sitting, sitting and buying, buying and sitting. Mir... Mira... Mira-something. Oh, the name is there on the tip of my tongue. Don`t you hate it when that happens?

INDOMINA RELEASING GOES FOR OUTCAST

LOS ANGELES, (Date) - Indomina Releasing, a new distributor of feature films, acquired all North American rights to the Scottish horror film, OUTCAST from international sales agent, Bankside Films.  OUTCAST, starring James Nesbitt (Bloody Sunday), Kate Dickie (Red Road) and Niall Bruton, was directed by Colm McCarthy, written by McCarthy and Tom McCarthy, produced by Eddie Dick, Brendan McCarthy and John McDonnell, and executive produced by Phil Hunt and Compton Ross. Indomina Releasing's Vice President of Acquisitions Rob Williams and Bankside Films' Head of Sales and Marketing Stephen Kelliher negotiated the deal on behalf of the filmmakers. The deal was announced today by Jasbinder Singh Mann, C.E.O. of Indomina Group, overseeing global operations.

"We are delighted that Indomina Releasing will be handling OUTCAST in North America," said Kelliher. "They are a new and exciting company with lots of ambition, and we have been impressed by their passion, enthusiasm and clear understanding of the business. We look forward to OUTCAST being part of their future success."

Taking place in modern day Edinburgh, Scotland, OUTCAST unmasks an ancient Celtic society, where black magic exists.  Mary (Kate Dickie), a witch with extraordinary strength, is on the run as she tries to protect her son, Fergal (Niall Bruton), from a dangerous hunter (James Nesbitt) assigned to kill them to hide the truth of their past.

Okay, now it is just getting ridiculous. When is Indomina going to start doing something with all the titles they've picked up?

At least as Miramax was buying and buying and buying, they were actually distributing films too, so there was reason to believe that the films they were acquiring might also be distributed one day. Indominia distributes nothing but press releases which are largely indistinguishable from one another, all featuring breathless praise of the company's passion, enthusiasm, clear understanding of the business, and other exciting marketing nonsense-speak. I've heard all this many times before; it was usually bullshit.

In their defense they have only been announcing acquisitions for about 6 weeks. However, I'm wondering if they can successfully market these films all right off the bat. Seems like an awfully heavy load for a new company.

It only has been a few weeks, hasn't it? Time seems to be flying by. I'm all for supporting a new group/company and I am indebted to Indomina for the interview AND extra time with YWP during FF but come on now. At least have the courtesy to let fans of these films know HOW they are going to be able to see them. "demonstrating once again that Indomina is the premiere destination for genre based content" How? The company hasn't done anything yet! What are they promising these sales agents that makes them want to sign their films on with them? Argh. Insert shaking of fist. Frustration.

My feeling exactly. Grab a few films, show us that you know what to do with them, THEN grab a few more. Don't grab all of them, insist you're going to do a good job and not announce any concrete plans.

It feels like so much longer, must be the sheer volume of dullingly identical press releases they've spewed forth. Unless they've got really, REALLY deep pockets, it seems like they're biting off more than they can possibly handle. If TRUE LEGEND or BODYGUARDS AND ASSASSINS came cheap, wouldn't someone else would have grabbed them sooner? And that's just two of their titles, two which are readily available through parallel import and other, less legal, more convenient means.

By the time they're done burning through their acquisition spree, how are they going to pay for the marketing and releasing of this stuff, some of which is likely to under-perform having effectively been available for a while already. The more titles they buy up without setting the gears of the customer outreach machine in motion, the more skeptical I become of their vast genius market visionary insightful blah blah blah. Even Dragon Dynasty has a Twitter account to BS their customers more directly. And while I don't like a company that lies to my face, at least they understand that they're nothing without customers, so they better at least pretend like they care. Indomina has yet to say "Hello Future Customers! We Luv U! Here's Why You Should Luv Us 2!" If you're more indifferent and aloof to customers than Dragon Dynasty then you need to quit f***ing up, full stop. Unless, of course, their plan is simply to buy up in-demand titles, shelve them, collect the IP addresses of US residents downloading them from torrent networks, and then sue the shit out of them from their tax haven in the Dominican Republic. But that would be silly. (Even though technically they haven't said anything to contradict that.)
