Will Ryan Gosling pave the way for Nicolas Winding Refn's first major commercial success in North America? New distributor FilmDistrict is certainly hoping so. Though the director of Bronson, Valhalla Rising and the Pusher films is still in production on his latest FilmDistrict have moved fast to lock up rights and are planning a release in the fall of 2011.
The picture stars Ryan Gosling and Carey Mulligan, Gosling as a stunt driver who doubles as a getaway driver for various criminal endeavors. things do not go well. Here's the official synopsis:
DRIVE is a fast paced action thriller that focuses on a Hollywood stunt driver, a loner by nature, who moonlights as a getaway driver-for-hire in the criminal underworld. He finds himself a target for some of LA's most dangerous men after agreeing to aid the ex-con boyfriend of his beautiful neighbor in a job that goes dangerously awry. The only way he can keep her safe and stay alive is to do what he does best: Drive.
Bryan Cranston and Ron Perlman also star. It looks as though I'll be visiting the set of this one next week so watch for more news soon.
