So. The good news for those anxiously awaiting the arrival of The Walking Dead to AMC: The latest clip to appear online includes a very graphic head shot sequence. This is pretty important to a zombie story, obviously, and there have been concerns about how explicit and bloody the show would be able to be on American TV. This should allay those fears.

Bad news? Good god, that CGI blood is HORRIBLE. And not horrible just because it's CGI but horrible because it just plain looks horrible, by which I mean cheap. And it seems to be defying the lays of physics at some points. I know TV special effects are never great but you've really got to do your splatter better than this if you want the show to work, boys. Check it below.

I HATE cg blood, but I've seen a lot worse on feature films (300). This is still a television budget which means a fraction of the budget and a fraction of the time. I'd rather have a great story and bad fx, than great fx and bad story. Could be worse, but you have a point.

Oh jesus, I'm so tired of people complaining about CG blood. That looks fine. Given that's it a TV show, it looks great. Even if it looked bad - it doesn't - think about how little time TV shows have to get made. I'm sure there's plenty of practical blood in the show, but a head shot shown in that much detail...they're not going to have the time to shoot it multiple times, practically, to get it right. If you think it looks horrible, just give them a break. AMC's going out on a limb with Walking Dead, and we should be greatful it even exists in this medium.

I can see people's issue with CG blood I mean look at Battle Royale 2 for example. But with the scene above I reckon it works, it should keep the fan boys happy as looks very comic style, sticking with the graphic novel.

I can see Todd's point though as this looks more like black stringy goop than blood.
And my nominee for worst cgi blood ever: "Onechanbara" (and "Onechanbara Vortex" of course).

@Chris - Actually, that effect wouldn't be prohibitively difficult. It's a squib and a skull patch cover is all. My guess is CGI was used in that instance so the production could "push it" or "pull back" in regards to what can and can't air, since it's an up close kill.

Isn't zombie blood supposed to be stringy and goopy?! Looks fine to me, you guys are over-analyzing.

I'm with Chris P and Mazinger Z on this one, this is nit picking at best. Looks fine to me, just as good as 85% of the movies that you guys cover here on Twitch.
