Could Bollywood's RA. ONE Be The First Interactive Video Game Movie?

by J Hurtado, October 7, 2010 11:46 PM

Hot on the heels of Enthiran's runaway box office success in India and around the world, Bollywood's own superstar, Shah Rukh Khan (seen at left working his day job as a coal miner), has decided to up the Sci-fi ante.  Not one to be shown up, Khan called a meeting of the crew on Ra. One and pitched the idea of making it the very first interactive gaming movie!  Wait.  What?

In the past we've seen films with multiple endings, a la Clue.  We've also seen films where the audience votes on a fate for the villain, as in William Castle's Mr. Sardonicus.  However, I've never heard of a film with an interactive video game ending.  In fact, I can't even wrap my brain around how that would work.

The film's title is a reference to the villain of a video game created by Shah Rukh Khan's character, a video game programmer.  According to the scuttlebutt, in the film, the video game begins coming to life, and SRK becomes the hero, also known as G.One.  Supposedly, for the climax the audience would be able to play the Ra. One game from their seats, I'm not sure how exactly, but it is certainly a novel idea.  Could be fun if they make it workable somehow.  They've got several months before the projected release and SRK just finished his portion of the shooting over the weekend, so let's see where this goes.

Nice to see more Bollywood coverage here lately.
In addition to Shah Rukh Khan, Ra One also stars Kareena Kapoor.

Any chance we'll see any coverage here on the upcoming Agent Vinod?
It's supposed to be a James Bond type secret agent movie starring real life couple Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor. Probably my most anticipated movie at the moment.

I liked the couple's last movie together, Kurbaan, though it didn't do very well at the box office. The similarly themed movie New York did much better business. Kurbaan had some good atmosphere and tension, though there were a handful of scenes which didn't work well. The film starts out as a romance, but turns into a suspenseful thriller. The scene where Avantika discovers what her neighbors are secretly up to was particularly effective.
The tag line of the movie was "some love stories have blood on them". It seemed that the film's steamy poster featuring a shirtless bloody bullet wounded Saif Ali Khan and the shirtless back of Kareena Kapoor created some controversy which seemed to hinder it's box office performance.

Hope Agent Vinod turns out better than Prince. Prince was horrible. Though, the dual machine gun outfitted hang-glider rescue had me laughing out loud. Prince was trying to be a mash-up of Iron Man, Spiderman, and Dhoom 2, but ended up coming up a little short.

Yup, I was brought on here mainly to address the Indian stuff. So thanks for reading! Also, thanks for the hint on Agent Vinod. Personally, I am not a fan of Kareena Kapoor or Saif Ali Khan, but I know they have their moments, so I'll keep an eye out for it.

I thought Metal Gear Solid 4 was the first interactive video game movie.
