Though we were asked to remove our script review of Guillermo Del Toro's upcoming At The Mountains Of Madness - it was based on an old draft and significant changes have been made since - we remain no less interested in the progress of the film and this bit of news does nothing to dampen our enthusiasm.
According to Collider Del Toro and Universal Pictures have begun talking cast, with each putting forward their preferred name. On Del Toro's side, it's apparently Tom Cruise. On Universal's, it's James McAvoy. None of this is official, of course, and it doesn't appear that there have even been any offers made yet but if this is the way they're thinking then I like where this is going.
Cruise may be a bit of a mess in his personal life and PR fronts but he's a very talented mess and capable of doing very, very solid work in the right hands. I think he'd mesh incredibly well with Del Toro. And McAvoy? I'm a little stunned Universal would suggest him, honestly, and stunned in a very good way as he's a personal favorite and, again very appropriate to the material. If the studio is thinking McAvoy they're thinking skill and fit more than star power, which is a hugely refreshing change from the norm. Either one will be just fine in my book.

Wow. This is the first I've heard that a Lovecraft story is being made into a film. I'm a huge fan of Lovecraft, especialy this story Mountains of Madness. Hopefully it will be as horrific and tense as the book!
I really hope Tom Cruise isn't the star of Guillermo's ATMOM.
You can read about my take on this, and other horror news, at my blog at

Commercially I think it would be wrong to cast Cruise, even if he is a good actor, and he is but his personal life seems to have spilled in to his movie life and people are staying away from his projects. Especially for a film this size I think they should go with an actor that doesn't carry baggage like that.
i wonder, can any one help me to stop this film being made?
i have weapons.
I wish I had the power to, my man, and or woman.
I think GDT may be losing some magic as far as being a writer/director.
.
HELLBOY 2 was a frickin' mess, his novel THE STRAIN w/Chuck Hogan was awful, and now he wants to distract everyone with Tom fucking Cruise in what finally might be a true-ish adaption of an HPL story?
This actually pisses me off.
