Here's the press release for the film and DVD specs:
Hailed by critics as "2010's most buzzed about film" THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE comes to DVD and high-definition Blu-ray disc on October 5, 2010, from IFC Films and MPI Media Group, with SRPs of $24.98 and $29.98, respectively. The DVD and Blu-ray will be available as bonus-filled unrated version.
The plot of THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE is diabolically simple: Two pretty American girls (Ashley C. Williams, Ashlynn Yennie) are on a road trip through Europe. In Germany, their car breaks down, leaving them alone in the woods at night. They take refuge in an isolated villa, where they wake the next morning to find themselves trapped in a basement along with a Japanese businessman. An older German man (a maniacally intense Dieter Laser) introduces himself as a retired surgeon who gained fortune and fame by separating Siamese twins. He then calmly tells his three "patients" that, far from being separated, they will be surgically attached to each other in a ghastly operation to connect their gastric systems. Thus will be born a new creature: the human centipede! Dutch director Tom Six's film is hands-down the most memorable horror of the year.
A sensation in Europe, Asia, Africa and North America, as well as a viral phenomenon with unprecedented Internet word of mouth (the trailer alone has nearly 2 million hits on YouTube), the movie even received the high honor of being referenced in a satirical bit on the 2010 Emmy Awards telecast.
The film has drawn superlatives from critics. Jeannette Catsoulis of The New York Times wrote, "This twisted, hammy bio-horror is sufficiently original to lure even the most satiated genre fans." The New York Post's V.A. Musetto called it "A must for horror buffs." "It's to my fellow depravity-heads that I recommend THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE," wrote Entertainment Weekly's Owen Gleiberman.
THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE won the Trophy Prize for Best Picture at Screamfest and the Jury Prize for Best Actor (Dieter Laser) at the Austin Fantastic Fest. And it truly has legs: Tom Six is currently at work on the sequel.
