No no no. Somebody's horny mother isn't bringing Adam Mason's all-too-little seen Blood River, and the highly notorious and often misunderstood A Serbian Film for screenings at the lovely SIFF Cinema in downtown Seattle. The Maelstrom International Fantastic Film Festival is though!
The Maelstrom International Fantastic Film Festival (say that ten times in a row fast), and yours truly, are ecstatic to be screening these two gems of extreme cinema at such a lovely venue as the SIFF Cinemas, at Seattle Center.
Adam Mason's criminally underseen Blood River plays Friday, September 17, at 8pm. Be sure to catch this dusty, bloody, noirish tale of a couple (Tess Panzer and Ian Duncan) trapped in the middle of nowhere with a madman (longtime Adam Mason collaborator Andrew Howard, soon to be seen in the surprisingly good I Spit On Your Grave remake) who may or may not be more than he seems. Rural settings frame this tale of terror and survival, all playing out underneath a glaring sun that illuminates the horrors unforgivably.
A Serbian Film, playing Saturday, September 18, at 8:30pm, needs very little introduction right now. If you read Twitch and other film sites, odds are you've come across a review or maybe seen the trailer. Director Srdjan Spasojevic's A Serbian Film is a piece of work that needs to be experienced firsthand. Milos (brilliant lead Srdjan Todorovic) is an out of work ex-porno actor who takes one last gig, after being offered an amount of money too good to be true by an eccentric millionaire. Loving husband and father, Milos soon finds himself battling for the safety of his loved ones as well as himself when the shoot turns out to be much more than a simple fuck and suck for the cameras.
Brutal. Unflinching. Devastating. Moving. For me these words can all be hung on A Serbian Film.
Seattle area extreme cinema fans, do yourselves a favor and see these films properly, on a screen, with an audience.
I myself will be there both nights introducing the films, so if you happen to attend be sure to come up and say hello. I always love meeting other Twitch'ers.
