Los Angeles, CA (August 27, 2010) -- 24 frames, LLC has announced that it has acquired all North-American rights to the Mexican science fiction box office sensation "SERES: GENESIS" from Huma Films. This action-packed alien invasion thriller will open nationwide in Mexico on September 17, followed shortly thereafter by US theaters. The film was produced, directed and written by Angel Mario Huerta ("Inspiración") and stars Alejandra Barros ("Sultanes Del Sur," "Amar," "Matando Cabos"), Liz Gallardo ("Máncora," "Sangre de familia," "La última y nos vamos"), Humberto Busto ("Depositarios," "Niñas Mal," "Amores Perros"), Manuel Balbi ("Deseo Prohibido," "La viuda de Blanco"), Arturo Delgado ("Entre Canibales," "María José") and veteran actor Gonzalo Vega ("A través del Silencio," "Tengo Todo").
When a young girl is found amid the wreckage of an accident caused by an alien craft, Mariel (Alejandra Barros), head of a secretive task force investigating the paranormal, must solve the riddle of a frightening message the girl delivers which suggests humanity is on the verge of extermination by a hostile alien force.
This is the first part of a trilogy. SERES: GÉNESIS is the beginning, SERES: EVOLUTION predicts the future of mankind and SERES: EXTINCTION will reveal the secrets of our destiny.
"SERES: GENESIS" is based on the wildly successful Mexican graphic novel published by Huma Comics. The novel is part of the Seres Universe series covering the three films and continues on in "Seres Chronicles". The first graphic novel in the series will be available in the US in an English language version starting in October.
""SERES: GENESIS" is another shining example of the tremendous new talent in film making in Mexico. This alien invasion picture is a first from Mexico. The special effects and its unique story are simply amazing", says Ludo Cremers, President of 24 frames. "Audiences in Mexico and the US will be thrilled by the rich universe brought to science fiction fans by this breathtaking movie trilogy and the Seres Chronicles graphic novels. We are honored to work with Huma Films and distribute "SERES" in North-America."
"I am happy to see the evolution from the graphic novel to the screen." Says Angel Mario Huerta, who directed, produced and wrote SERES: GENESIS. "I really had a blast working with the actors and bringing this novel to life. The Visual Effects will surprise a lot of people. I'm convinced this is the beginning of something really BIG."
"It was an amazing adventure working on this film and the adventure surely will be felt by the audience," says Alejandra Barros, who plays Mariel in the film. "They will feel what we felt, and this is a passion for the paranormal and the need to know what´s in store for human kind in this world."
"While the action sequences in SERES: GENESIS are exhilarating, it is the stellar performance by telenovela superstar Alejandra Barros that makes the story so chilling," says Jesús di Sica, 24 frames' Director of Development and Acquisitions. "Her scene with Luisa Guerrero, who plays Fernanda, the little girl possessed by aliens, is one of the creepiest and most memorable moments in recent sci-fi movie history.

Todd, I'm from Mexico and everything about this project spells SHIT. Soap opera actors directed by a talentless asshole. I'm all for genre films being made in my country, the problem is that, except for a few (Somos lo que hay), everything else is done like a Telenovela with Aliens/Ghosts/Monsters.
So now we have like what, 3 or 4 alien movies coming out soon?
Sorry for the double post guys
I am really looking forward to watch this movie. I don´t agree with people who start criticizing the movie before they had seen it, even if they´ve only seen the trailer, you cannot make a movie review based on a trailer, period.
The Mexican film industry has seen a lot of growth recently and there´s nothing wrong with us being proud of it.
Not being a movie critic, but a normal person who likes movies, I am willing to pay the ticket for this movie from what I saw in the trailer and that´s good enough for me, the fact that it is Mexican does not matter when I am at the movies, the fact that it is Mexican makes me proud precisely because I have a good expectation about the movie based on what I saw in the trailer and the experience and background of the actors and the director.
I don´t expect this to be a bad movie, I have seen enough Mexican movies in these years and most of them were really good and I was satisfied as much as I was watching good american movies.
If you want to talk about bad productions made in Mexico, Hollywood is full of bad productions and every single year there is one or two good movies for every one hundred bad mediocre movies, actually Hollywood was made with bad productions. Because that´s how you build an industry, from the bottom up and not viceversa.
I take my hat off for Angel Mario Huerta, Alejandra Barros and all the actors, Corazon Films, Huma, and all those people in Mexico who take risks, who aspire to do better, to try and also 24 frames, LLC for believing in Mexican talent.
This opened here in Mexico last friday. It has had a pretty lukewarm response from audiences. Critics hated it. Bombed at the box office (didn't make the Top 10 and had mediocre numbers at best). I had a chance to see it on sunday. Five people walked out from the theatre, around 20 more stayed for the torture. The movie es bad. Really bad. And it really has nothing to do with the special effects (which where OK, but not great) or production aspects (although there were some sets that looked very cheap and some costume choices were pretty cartoony). The screenplay is terrible: cliched, boring, with horrible dialogue, just very childish and naive. The actor couldn't do much with the material they where given and some seem to be sleepwalking through the story. And the director's choices match the screenplay and performances: nothing happens for two hours! If you're attracted to the idea of Mexican Science Fiction, go find some wrestler films or direct-to-video movies from the 80's and 90's. You'll have more fun watching that than this shallow, boring story.
